One day my wife and two children went to the store

One day my wife and two children went to the store. The youngest was 5 and the oldest 8. The youngest son, all the while demanding candy, and I said that if he did not stop, I will go back and take those candies, which gave him yesterday. But then the elder said that I will not be able to do so. For some time I started to panic, but then I realized what to do. I closed my eyes, paused, and then asked:
- do You remember that chocolate bar you ate last night?
- What? Yesterday I didn't eat any candy bar!
